RS Models 1/72 Avia Bk-534 # 92065
The Avia Bk-534 was the ultimate and most heavily armed development of Czechoslovakia’s renowned B-534 biplane fighter series.
Introduced in the late 1930s, it represented the final evolution of one of the finest biplane fighters ever produced.
Based on the earlier B-534 airframe, the Bk-534 retained the Hispano-Suiza 12Ydrs liquid-cooled V12 engine, delivering a top speed of approximately 250 mph (400 km/h).
While monoplane fighters were rapidly becoming the new standard, the Bk-534 proved that the biplane design still had performance potential when refined to its limits.
The defining feature of the Bk-534 was its upgraded armament. Unlike previous B-534 variants armed solely with machine guns, the Bk-534 mounted a powerful 20 mm cannon firing through the propeller hub, supplemented by additional machine guns.
This significantly increased its destructive capability and brought it closer in firepower to contemporary monoplane fighters.
Externally, the aircraft maintained the elegant lines of the B-534 series, with its enclosed cockpit, streamlined fuselage, and fixed landing gear with spats.
Pilots valued its agility, responsive controls, and tight turning ability — qualities that remained strengths of biplane fighters in close combat.
Following the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939, Bk-534 aircraft were absorbed into German control for training and secondary duties, while others served with the Slovak Air Force during the early stages of the Second World War.
The Avia Bk-534 stands as one of the most advanced and powerful biplane fighters ever built — a striking symbol of the closing chapter of the biplane era just before modern monoplane fighters permanently reshaped aerial combat.
