The Heinkel He-112 was a single-seat fighter aircraft developed in Germany during the late 1930s.
It was designed by the Heinkel Flugzeugwerke as a potential competitor to the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the Luftwaffe's pursuit of a modern monoplane fighter.
The He-112 featured a sleek, streamlined design with a low-wing monoplane configuration.
It was powered by various inline engines, including the Rolls-Royce Kestrel and the Daimler-Benz DB 600 series, which gave it respectable performance for its time.
The aircraft had an enclosed cockpit and was armed with a combination of machine guns and cannons mounted in the wings.
Despite its promising design and performance, the Heinkel He-112 ultimately lost out to the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the Luftwaffe's selection process.
However, it did see limited service with several air forces, including the Spanish Air Force during the Spanish Civil War.
While it never achieved the widespread adoption of the Bf 109, the Heinkel He-112 nonetheless contributed to the advancement of German aviation technology and served as an important developmental step in the evolution of fighter aircraft during the prelude to World War II.
