The Morane D.3801
The Morane D.3801 was a Swiss WWII fighter. The plane had a metal structure and a landing gear retracted in flight in the classic layout. The machine was first tested in 1940, and a year later it entered serial production, which lasted intermittently until 1948. About 230 aircraft of this type were built in the course of it. The drive was provided by the Hispano-Suiza HS-51 12Y engine with a capacity of 1060 HP.
The Morane D.3801 was essentially a modification of the Morane-Saulnier M.S. 406 and very similar to him, M.S.412. First of all, the machine uses a new engine with increased maximum power, and the exhaust system has been improved. Despite the operational problems with the Hispano-Suiza HS-51 engine, the machine was put into production, and the problems with the power unit were solved during operation, but only in 1944! After all the above-mentioned problems were resolved, the machine was comparable to the combat capabilities of Dewoitine D.520 or Hawker Hurricane airplanes. In 1948, it was replaced in line by the P-51 Mustangs, and until 1959 the D.3801s were used as training planes and flying targets.
