The Avia B-534 was one of the finest biplane fighters of the 1930s and a symbol of Czechoslovakia’s advanced pre-war aviation industry.
Entering service in 1935, the B-534 combined elegant biplane handling with impressive speed and maneuverability for its class.
Its sturdy construction, reliable inline engine, and excellent climb performance made it competitive with many early monoplane fighters of the era.
Armed with four machine guns and featuring a sleek, streamlined fuselage, the B-534 served with the Czechoslovak Air Force right up until the country’s occupation in 1939.
It later flew with Slovak forces on the Eastern Front and saw additional service with Bulgaria and Germany in training and secondary roles.
Despite being outclassed by modern wartime aircraft, the B-534 remained respected for its agility, robustness, and distinctive design.
