The Grumman HU-16B/D "Albatross" was a twin-engine amphibious flying boat designed for search and rescue (SAR), maritime patrol, and transport missions.
Used by the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard, it was powered by Wright R-1820 radial engines and featured a rugged hull for water landings.
The HU-16B had an extended wingspan for greater range, while the HU-16D was a Navy/Marine Corps version with similar capabilities.
Known for its ability to operate in rough seas and remote areas, the Albatross played a crucial role in military and humanitarian missions from the 1950s to the 1970s, with some still flying today in civilian use.
