The JB-2 Loon “US Version of V-1 Missile” was an American-developed copy of the German V-1 flying bomb, created during the final years of the Second World War to study and advance early guided missile technology.

Reverse-engineered from captured V-1 examples, the JB-2 became one of the United States’ first operational cruise missile projects and marked an important milestone in the development of modern unmanned weapons systems.

Powered by a pulsejet engine mounted above the fuselage, the JB-2 featured the same distinctive design and characteristic sound as the original German V-1.

Although intended for potential use against Japanese targets in the Pacific, the war ended before the missile saw combat deployment.

Instead, the programme continued after the war as an important research and testing platform for future missile and drone development.

The JB-2 Loon played a significant role in the early evolution of guided weapons technology and paved the way for later American cruise missile systems.

This model offers aviation and military history enthusiasts a fascinating look at one of the earliest US missile programmes and the beginnings of modern unmanned warfare.
