The Douglas P-70 Nighthawk was the night-fighter adaptation of the A-20 Havoc, developed by the United States early in the Second World War.
Equipped with radar and a solid nose housing four 20 mm cannons, the P-70 was intended to counter enemy bombers during nighttime operations.
While its speed and climb rate were limited compared to later purpose-built designs, the Nighthawk provided valuable service as a stopgap aircraft, training night-fighter crews and flying some combat missions in the Pacific and Mediterranean theatres.
It marked an important step in the evolution of American night-fighter capability.
Douglas P-70 Nighthawk The A-20 Havoc was a great light bomber, although it also served as a platform for a night fighter.
The Havoc was modified to create the P-70 Nighthawk night fighter. It was deployed in the Pacific and was also used extensively for training in the United States.
The kit consists of six frames of grey plastic parts and a frame of clear parts.
The decals feature four machines, three of which fought in the Pacific and one of which was used for training in the United States.
