The Carro Armato M13/40, commonly referred to as the M13/40, was an Italian medium tank used during World War II.
It was developed in the 1930s and became the mainstay of the Italian armored forces during the early stages of the war.
The M13/40 featured a riveted hull and a relatively low profile, characteristic of tanks of that era.
It was armed with a 47mm main gun, which could effectively engage enemy tanks and fortified positions.
The tank also had several machine guns for anti-infantry and anti-aircraft defense.
The armor of the M13/40 was adequate for its time, offering protection against small arms fire and shell fragments.
However, it was relatively thin compared to the tanks used by other nations during the war, making it vulnerable to more powerful anti-tank weapons.
The tank was powered by a diesel engine, providing it with good mobility on various terrains.
It had a top speed of around 30 miles per hour (48 kilometers per hour), allowing for effective maneuverability in combat situations.
The M13/40 saw action in various theaters of World War II, including North Africa and the Balkans.

Despite its contribution, the M13/40 had limitations compared to the tanks of other nations.

Several surviving M13/40 tanks can be found in museums and private collections, serving as a reminder of Italy's armored forces during the war.
