The Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf. N was the final production version of the Panzer III series, repurposed as an infantry support tank in the later stages of World War II.

Introduced in 1942, the Ausf. N replaced the longer-barreled anti-tank guns of earlier models with the short-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 gun, better suited for firing high-explosive shells against soft targets and fortified positions.

Built on existing Panzer III chassis, many Ausf. N vehicles were conversions of older variants.

It retained the reliable suspension, good mobility, and low profile of the Panzer III, while gaining additional armor protection and often sharing components with the Panzer IV to simplify logistics.

Commonly assigned to heavy tank units, including Tiger battalions, the Ausf. N served as close-support armor alongside heavier tanks.

Though outmatched by modern Allied and Soviet armor, it remained a valuable battlefield asset, especially in combined arms operations.
