German battleship Schleswig-Holstein is a precedent to dreadnoughts in Germany, in 1906 the water base displacement of 13,993 tons, total length of 127.71m and speed of 18 knots.

In the terms of the Treaty of Versailles after the First World War, Germany was not allowed to build any type of battleship, and only allowed to retain eight of the old battleships. The ship except was for training and coastal defense, not for other purposes.

Schleswig-Holstein was one of the ships Germany was allowed to retain.

On August 25, 1939, the old battleship Schleswig-Holstein, was sent to commemorate the First World War Memorial in the name of "A goodwill visit" to Poland's Danzig City, at 4:17 on September Schleswig-Holstein shelled Polish barracks firing the first shot of World War II, the roar of cannons opened World War II.

World War II the German Navy surface ship force was basically holed up at the harbor, the old Schleswig-Holstein, was painted terrestrial camouflage hiding.

The ship escaped the fate of being sunk after the war but was salvaged as compensation for material compensation for the Soviet Union.
