November 28, 1922,HMS Rodney started Cammel-Laird shipyard in Birkenhead, launching on November 7, 1925, and named after the 18th and 19th century British naval star Rodney; November 1927on the 10th HMS Rodney completed.

During World War II, HMS Rodney and the its sister ship HMS Nelson, joined the Norwegian campaign, and rounded up German pocket battleship DKM Sher will the action April 1940 near Bergen, Norway by German bombers, and wounded. May 27, 1941,
