At a speed of 15 knots, its range is 12000 nautical miles.After the completion of the Alaska class battle cruiser mainly along with Mitchell's fleet aircraft carriers, as the cruiser squadron flagship, and provide protection for aircraft carrier.

At the end of Japanese naval and air forces near destruction, participated in the bombardment fleet bombarded Japanese native.

After the Japanese surrender, USS Guam joined the seventh fleet, on February 17, 1947, USS Guam Alaska from active duty, at the end of the 50's demolition.
