The McDonnell-Douglas AV-8B Harrier II was an advanced development of the original British Harrier, introduced in the 1980s as a second-generation V/STOL (Vertical/Short Take-Off and Landing) strike aircraft.
Featuring a larger composite wing, upgraded Pegasus 11 turbofan engine, modern avionics, and improved payload capacity, the AV-8B offered greater range and combat effectiveness than its predecessor.
Designed for close air support, reconnaissance, and interdiction, it served with the U.S. Marine Corps and several allied air forces.
Its ability to operate from short runways and amphibious assault ships made it a highly flexible asset, proving its worth in conflicts from the Gulf War to operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
