The T-72 is actually a Soviet-era main battle tank that was first introduced in 1973 and is still in use by various military forces today. The T-72 is known for its powerful 125mm smoothbore gun, heavy armor, and high mobility.

However, there is a gun motor carriage that was used by the US Army during World War II called the T72 Gun Motor Carriage, also known as the T72 GMC. The T72 GMC was a prototype vehicle that was designed to be armed with a 76mm M1A1 gun and mounted on a M3 Half-track chassis. The project was initiated in 1942, but due to delays and technical issues, it was eventually cancelled in 1944. Only one prototype was built, and it never saw combat.

The T72 GMC was intended to provide mobile anti-tank firepower for US armored divisions, as well as to serve as a tank destroyer. However, the project was ultimately deemed unnecessary, as the M10 tank destroyer and M18 Hellcat already fulfilled these roles effectively.
