The Centurion Tank Mk5/7 is a British-designed main battle tank that was used by many countries during the Cold War era, including Australia.
The Royal Australian Armoured Corps operated the Mk5/7 variant of the Centurion Tank from the mid-1950s until the late 1970s.
The tank was a significant improvement over previous tank designs, featuring a powerful 20-pounder gun, improved armor protection, and a more powerful engine.
The Mk5/7 variant was also equipped with a laser rangefinder and a gun stabilization system, which improved accuracy during firing and maneuvering.
The Centurion Tank Mk5/7 was widely regarded as a reliable and effective tank and played a key role in the Australian Army's armored warfare capability during the Cold War.
