The Mikoyan MiG-21PF “Fishbed” Front-Line Interceptor was a highly effective supersonic fighter used by the Vietnam People’s Air Force (VPAF) during the Vietnam War.

Designed by the Soviet Union as a lightweight, high-speed interceptor, the MiG-21 became one of the most widely produced and recognisable jet fighters of the Cold War.

The MiG-21PF variant was equipped with improved radar and interception capabilities, allowing it to engage enemy aircraft in a variety of weather conditions.

Its delta-wing design, powerful turbojet engine, and impressive climb rate made it well suited for quick interception missions against incoming aircraft.

Although relatively small and simple compared to Western fighters, the MiG-21 proved extremely agile and effective in combat.

During the Vietnam War, MiG-21PF aircraft operated by the VPAF (North Vietnam) were used in hit-and-run tactics against U.S. aircraft, including bombers and escort fighters.

Their speed, manoeuvrability, and effective ground control interception system allowed North Vietnamese pilots to challenge technologically superior opponents, making the MiG-21 one of the most iconic fighters of the conflict.
