NATO's Air Combat Manoeuvring Instrumentation (ACMI) system is a high-tech training and analysis tool used during aerial combat exercises.
It provides real-time tracking, data recording, and post-mission debrief capabilities for fighter pilots engaged in simulated dogfights.
Each aircraft is equipped with an ACMI pod that relays position, speed, altitude, and missile launch simulations to ground control, enabling highly realistic combat training while ensuring pilot safety.
Complementing this system in live-fire and training scenarios are the AIM-9L and AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles—infrared-guided short-range air-to-air weapons widely used by NATO air forces.
The AIM-9L introduced all-aspect engagement capability, allowing it to strike targets from any angle, while the AIM-9M added improved counter-countermeasure resistance and reduced smoke launch.
Together, ACMI and the AIM-9L/M provide a critical edge in both training and combat, enhancing pilot effectiveness and air superiority in NATO operations.
