The Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX was the ultimate unarmed reconnaissance variant of the legendary Spitfire, developed during the final years of the Second World War.

Combining the elegant lines of the Spitfire with cutting-edge performance, the PR.XIX was powered by the mighty Rolls-Royce Griffon 66 engine, giving it a top speed of over 440 mph — making it one of the fastest piston-engine aircraft ever built.

Designed for high-altitude photographic reconnaissance, it featured a pressurised cockpit, sleek unarmed airframe, and extended wingtips for superior performance at extreme altitudes.

Entering service in 1944, the PR.XIX played a vital role in post-war intelligence gathering, including early Cold War surveillance missions.

Its elegant appearance and remarkable performance made it a fitting finale to the Spitfire’s illustrious lineage — a perfect blend of speed, grace, and technological advancement that marked the peak of piston-engined aviation.
