The M22 "Locust" was a light airborne tank developed by the United States during World War II for use by airborne forces.
Designated T9E1 during development, it was compact and lightweight enough to be transported by glider or aircraft, weighing just over 7 tons.
Armed with a 37mm main gun and a .30 caliber machine gun, the Locust was designed for rapid deployment and reconnaissance rather than heavy combat.
Although its armor was thin and protection limited, it represented a unique attempt to give paratroopers immediate armored support.
The M22 saw limited action, most notably during Operation Varsity in 1945.
