The Type 10 is a Japanese Ground Self Defense Force (JSDF) next-generation main battle tank developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and entered service in 2012.

The Type 10 has been upgraded in its ability to respond to anti-tank warfare and other situations when compared to other JGSDF main battle tanks now in service.

Japan chose in the early 2000s to modernise its tank force in order to better prepare for 21st-century conflict.

The capacity to have a C4I (Command, Control, Communication, and Computing) system is one of the most significant needs for the new tank.

The Ministry of Defense found that there was not enough internal room for a C4I system upgrade on existing Type 74 and Type 90 main battle tanks after examining their upgrade potential.

As a result, the creation of a new main battle tank capable of a variety of future fighting missions was required.
