The Lancia Stratos HF “Stradale” is one of the most iconic and purpose-built road cars ever created, developed primarily to homologate the competition version for rallying.
Produced in the early 1970s by Lancia, the Stratos was revolutionary in both design and intent—being one of the first cars engineered specifically for rally success from the outset.
Its dramatic wedge-shaped body, penned by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, gave the Stratos a futuristic and aggressive appearance that still looks striking today.
Compact dimensions, a very short wheelbase, and wide track contributed to its exceptional agility, making it perfectly suited to tight and twisting rally stages.
At the heart of the Stradale version was a mid-mounted V6 engine derived from the Ferrari Dino 246, delivering strong performance and a distinctive exhaust note.
This combination of lightweight construction and potent power gave the Stratos remarkable acceleration and handling balance.
The interior of the Stradale was minimalistic and driver-focused, reflecting its competition roots.
While road-legal, it retained a raw and uncompromising character, offering little in the way of comfort but an abundance of driving excitement.
The Stratos achieved legendary status through its dominance in the World Rally Championship, securing multiple manufacturers’ titles in the mid-1970s.
Although the Stradale version was built to meet homologation requirements, it has become highly desirable in its own right due to its rarity, design, and motorsport pedigree.
Today, the Lancia Stratos HF Stradale is celebrated as a true automotive icon—an uncompromising machine that blurred the line between road car and rally weapon, and a symbol of a golden era in motorsport innovation.
