Hasegawa 1/48 Grumman F-14A Tomcat # PT046
The F-14 Tomcat was one of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced aircraft ever to service aboard aircraft carriers, and it was designed as the US Navy's premier fighter.
It could undertake air superiority, escort, and strike missions.
On December 21, 1970, the prototype flew for the first time, and the first planes were delivered to the US Navy four years later.
The last Tomcat planes were retired in 2006, demonstrating the machine's high quality and outstanding performance.
The F-14's changeable geometry wings are the most original and distinctive solution.
They will be computer controlled, but the pilot will be able to manually modify their angle of attack from 20 degrees at low speeds to 60 degrees at supersonic speeds.
The changing shape of the wings also allows for effective positioning of the wings during tight manoeuvring, giving this powerful aircraft incredible mobility.
The Hughes ANG-9 radar, which is used with AIM-54A Phoenix air-to-air missiles with a range of up to 180 kilometres, is at the heart of the Tomcat weapon system.
It's especially crucial to be able to follow and attack several targets.
The cannon - on the F-14 installed inside the hull of the M-61 Vulcan, shooting up to 6000 rounds per minute! - is a vital component of the armament, as demonstrated by combat experiences from the Vietnam war.
Other weaponry, like as Sparrow, Sidewinder rockets, and different bombs, can also be attached to the Tomcat.
The F-14's success is also due to its superb powerplant, which consists of two Pratt-Whitney TF30 engines with a thrust of 9300 daN with afterburning.
