The Focke-Wulf Ta 152 was one of the most advanced piston-engine fighters developed by Germany during the Second World War.

The Ta 152C-0 variant represented a specialised low- to medium-altitude interceptor, designed to complement the high-altitude Ta 152H.

Developed by Focke-Wulf under the direction of Kurt Tank, the Ta 152 was an evolution of the formidable Fw 190 series, incorporating a more powerful inline engine and refined aerodynamics.

Design and Performance

The Ta 152C-0 was optimised for combat at lower altitudes:

- Powered by a Daimler-Benz DB 603 engine, offering strong performance and acceleration
- Shorter wingspan than the high-altitude Ta 152H, improving manoeuvrability
- Heavily armed with cannon concentrated in the nose, ideal for bomber interception

Its design emphasised speed, climb rate, and firepower—making it well suited to counter Allied aircraft at medium altitudes.

Role and Development

The “C” series was intended to serve as a multi-role fighter, capable of:

- Intercepting enemy bombers
- Engaging escort fighters
- Performing ground-attack missions if required

However, the Ta 152C-0 remained largely in the pre-production and prototype stage, as the deteriorating war situation limited full-scale deployment.

Armament

Typical planned armament included:

- One 30mm MK 108 cannon firing through the propeller hub
- Four 20mm MG 151/20 cannons mounted around the engine

This heavy concentration of forward firepower made it extremely lethal in a single pass.

Legacy

Although overshadowed by the more well-known Ta 152H, the C-series demonstrates the flexibility and ambition of late-war German aircraft design.

It represented an attempt to create a high-performance, all-altitude fighter capable of meeting diverse operational demands.
