The German Flakpanzer V Ausf. A was a late-war prototype self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicle based on the proven Panther tank chassis.

Designed to give armoured units mobile air defence, it featured a fully rotating turret fitted with twin 37 mm cannons, providing effective firepower against low-flying Allied aircraft.

Though it never progressed beyond the prototype stage, the Ausf. A demonstrated Germany’s attempts to strengthen battlefield air protection as air superiority shifted to the Allies in 1944–45.

For model builders, the Flakpanzer V Ausf. A offers a fascinating “what-if” subject combining the iconic Panther hull with an imposing AA turret — perfect for fans of late-war German armour and experimental designs.
