ICM 1/35 Sir Bernard Montgomery's Leyland Retriever # 35603
Sir Bernard Montgomery's Leyland Retriever was a customized military truck used as a mobile command vehicle during World War II.
Based on the sturdy and reliable Leyland Retriever chassis, the vehicle was transformed into a fully equipped headquarters on wheels to support Montgomery’s role as a prominent British Army general.
The truck featured modifications such as specialized communications equipment, including radios for coordinating large-scale operations, and office accommodations with a desk, maps, and seating for staff briefings.
Its interior was meticulously organized to reflect Montgomery’s precise and efficient command style.
The exterior bore military camouflage, blending with operational environments while maintaining mobility in the field.
This iconic vehicle was a vital tool during pivotal campaigns, including the North African desert battles, and it symbolizes Montgomery’s strategic acumen and the adaptability of British military logistics during the war.

| Short Description | When General Montgomery was commander of the 8th British Army in North Africa, he was given a specially designed staff vehicle. This original vehicle was based on the standard British army vehicle Leyland Retriever. A non-standard structure was installed on the basic chassis, which was a mobile field office, the interior of which was divided into two rooms. The front small room was equipped with a bathroom, while the large room had wardrobes for things and clothes, a desk with table lamps and a large sofa. Montgomery had two more special trucks at his disposal, one of which was converted into a mobile sleeping room and the other was used for large staff maps and for meetings. All three vehicles are also known as ‘Monty's Caravan’. They were used by General (and from 1944 Field Marshal) Montgomery until the very end of the war.
