The BM-13-16 "Katiusha" on ZiL-157 chassis is a Cold War-era version of the iconic Soviet multiple launch rocket system.
Mounted on the rugged and highly mobile ZiL-157 6x6 truck, this variant carried 16 launch rails for the powerful 132mm M-13 rockets, capable of delivering devastating barrages in rapid succession.
Nicknamed “Stalin’s Organ” for its howling rocket salvos, the Katiusha system gained legendary status during WWII and continued evolving into the postwar years.
The ZiL-157 platform, introduced in the 1950s, offered improved cross-country mobility and payload capacity, making it well-suited for fast redeployment and operations across difficult terrain.
This configuration remained in service with Soviet and Warsaw Pact forces into the 1960s and 70s, a symbol of Soviet battlefield firepower.
Its ability to saturate targets with explosive force in seconds made it a feared presence in both conventional and asymmetric warfare.
Today, the BM-13-16 on ZiL-157 is a powerful reminder of mid-20th-century artillery tactics and remains a popular subject for military historians and model enthusiasts alike.
