The CANT Z.1007 Alcione was an Italian three-engine medium bomber developed by Cantieri Aeronautici e Navali Triestini (CANT) during the late 1930s.

Introduced into service with the Regia Aeronautica, the aircraft was designed for long-range bombing missions and quickly became one of Italy’s most important bombers during the Second World War.

Its elegant lines and distinctive trimotor configuration gave it a recognisable silhouette, while its largely wooden construction helped keep the aircraft relatively lightweight.

It was capable of carrying a useful bomb load and was equipped with defensive machine guns to protect against enemy fighters.

The aircraft saw action across several theatres, including the Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Balkans, where it was used for strategic bombing, maritime patrol, and anti-shipping missions.

Although later overshadowed by more modern aircraft, the CANT Z.1007 Alcione proved to be one of the most effective Italian bombers of the war and remained in service throughout much of the conflict, becoming an important part of Italy’s wartime aviation history.

Short Description	The CANT Z.1007 Alcione medium bomber, designed by Filippo Zappata, entered service in the late 1930s and was extensively used by the Regia Aeronautica during the Second World War. Characterised by a wooden structure, it featured the typical Italian three-engine configuration. More specifically, its three 1,000 hp Piaggio P.XI radial engines allowed the CANT Z.1007 to reach a maximum speed of 450 km/h. The aircraft could carry 1,200 kg of offensive payload housed in an internal bomb bay. The crew typically consisted of five men, which could increase to six with the addition of a photographic operator for reconnaissance and maritime patrol missions.
