Developed to tackle the brutal terrain and weather conditions of the Eastern Front, the Raupenschlepper Ost (RSO/01) was a fully tracked, lightweight tractor used by the German Wehrmacht during World War II.

This version, equipped with a wooden shelter, reflects the practical field modifications that turned this rugged hauler into a mobile workshop, command post, or supply carrier—vital for survival in frontline conditions.

Originally designed by Steyr, the RSO/01 featured a high ground clearance, fully tracked suspension, and an 85hp V8 petrol engine—allowing it to haul loads and tow artillery through deep mud, snow, and broken roads where wheeled vehicles failed.

The addition of a wooden shelter over the cargo bed offered extra protection from the elements, enabling troops to operate radios, store supplies, or carry wounded under cover.

These makeshift shelters were often field-built or added during production runs later in the war, showcasing German adaptability in response to the unforgiving realities of the Eastern Front.
