Miniart 1/35 Sd.Kfz.234/3 Schwerer Panzerspahwagen Stummel # 53001

The Sd.Kfz. 234/3 Schwerer Panzerspähwagen "Stummel" was a variant of the German heavy armored reconnaissance vehicle used during World War II.

Part of the Sd.Kfz. 234 series, this vehicle was designed to combine mobility, firepower, and durability, serving as a versatile platform for battlefield reconnaissance and support roles.

Nicknamed "Stummel" (meaning "Stump" in German), the 234/3 was armed with a short-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 gun, the same weapon previously mounted on early Panzer IV tanks.

This weapon was effective against soft targets, fortified positions, and light vehicles, making the 234/3 an excellent support vehicle for mechanized units.

It also carried a secondary 7.92 mm MG34 or MG42 machine gun for defense against infantry.

The vehicle was built on a six-wheeled, 8x8 chassis, powered by a Tatra V12 air-cooled diesel engine, which allowed it to reach speeds of up to 85 km/h (53 mph) on roads.

Its all-wheel drive and independent suspension made it highly maneuverable on various terrains, including desert, steppe, and urban environments.

With a range of up to 800 kilometers (500 miles), the Sd.Kfz. 234/3 could operate deep into enemy territory.

The open-topped fighting compartment offered good visibility and flexibility for the crew of four (commander, driver, gunner, and radio operator), but it left them vulnerable to small arms fire and shrapnel.

Armor protection was relatively light, ranging from 8 to 30 mm, focusing on speed and reconnaissance capabilities rather than direct combat with heavy enemy forces.

Produced in limited numbers between mid-1944 and early 1945, the Sd.Kfz. 234/3 saw action on both the Western and Eastern Fronts, where its mobility and firepower were valuable in delaying actions, reconnaissance, and supporting infantry.

However, as the war progressed, its effectiveness diminished against better-armored Allied vehicles and aircraft dominance.

Today, the Sd.Kfz. 234/3 "Stummel" is recognized as a unique example of German ingenuity in designing multi-role reconnaissance vehicles, blending speed and firepower to support Wehrmacht operations in diverse combat scenarios.
