The M1128 Mobile Gun System (MGS) is a direct-fire support variant of the U.S. Army’s Stryker wheeled combat vehicle family, developed to provide infantry units with rapid, mobile firepower.
Entering service in the early 2000s, the M1128 was designed to engage fortified positions, light armour, and urban targets while retaining the high strategic and tactical mobility of the Stryker platform.
The vehicle is armed with a 105 mm M68A2 rifled cannon, mounted in a low-profile, remotely operated turret.
This powerful weapon allows the M1128 to deliver precise, heavy fire support in environments where main battle tanks may be impractical.
An autoloading system reduces crew workload, while secondary armament provides close-in defence.
Based on an 8×8 wheeled chassis, the M1128 offers excellent road speed and long operational range, making it well suited to rapid deployment and urban operations.
Modular armour packages enhance protection against small-arms fire, RPGs, and improvised explosive devices, reflecting the vehicle’s intended role in modern asymmetric conflicts.
The M1128 MGS has seen operational use with U.S. Army Stryker Brigade Combat Teams, particularly in Iraq, where its combination of firepower and mobility proved valuable in urban combat.
