The HU-16B "Albatross" was an amphibious flying boat developed by Grumman for the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard.
Designed for search and rescue (SAR), maritime patrol, and transport missions, it featured a rugged airframe, a large hull for water landings, and twin Wright R-1820 radial engines.
The HU-16B variant had an extended wingspan for improved range and performance.
Highly versatile, it operated in rough seas and remote locations, rescuing downed pilots and supporting humanitarian missions.
The Albatross served from the late 1940s through the 1970s, with some still flying today in civilian hands.
