The IS-2 (Iosif Stalin 2) was one of the most powerful and influential heavy tanks of the Second World War.

Introduced in 1943 as an evolution of the earlier IS-1, the IS-2 was designed to counter Germany’s heaviest armour and break through fortified defensive lines.

Its formidable 122 mm D-25T gun gave the Red Army a weapon capable of defeating Tiger and Panther tanks, as well as smashing bunkers and field fortifications with devastating high-explosive shells.

With thick, sloped armour and a compact, rugged silhouette, the IS-2 combined battlefield survivability with fearsome offensive power. It became a spearhead vehicle during major offensives in 1944–45, including the push across Eastern Europe and the final assault on Berlin.

The tank’s imposing presence and battlefield effectiveness helped cement its legacy as one of the war’s most iconic heavy tanks.
