The PZL P.11c “Kresy” was a Polish single-seat fighter aircraft and the mainstay of the Polish Air Force at the outbreak of World War II.

Developed in the early 1930s by Panstwowe Zakłady Lotnicze (PZL) under the design leadership of Zygmunt Puławski and later refined by Wsiewołod Jakimiuk, the P.11c featured an all-metal structure, a distinctive high “gull” wing, and a reliable radial engine.

Powered by a Bristol Mercury VI S2 engine producing around 645 horsepower, the aircraft could reach speeds of up to 390 km/h (242 mph) and operate at altitudes exceeding 8,000 meters.

Its armament typically included two to four 7.92 mm machine guns, and it could carry light bombs for ground-attack missions.

The “Kresy” designation refers to the eastern borderland squadrons of the Polish Air Force that flew the P.11c during the September 1939 campaign.

Though technologically outclassed by contemporary fighters, the PZL P.11c symbolized Polish courage and determination during the country’s defense.

Its rugged design, excellent maneuverability, and dedicated pilots earned it a lasting place in aviation history.
