Border Model 1/72 M1128 Stryker MGS # 7208
The M1128 Stryker Mobile Gun System (MGS) was developed to provide U.S. Army Stryker Brigade Combat Teams with direct-fire support in a fast, deployable wheeled platform.
Based on the eight-wheeled Stryker chassis, the MGS mounted a powerful 105mm M68A1E4 cannon in a low-profile, remotely operated turret.
Designed for rapid deployment and urban combat, the M1128 combined mobility with heavy firepower.
Unlike traditional main battle tanks, it relied on speed, flexibility, and air transportability rather than thick armour.
The vehicle could be transported by C-130 aircraft, allowing Stryker brigades to deploy quickly to crisis zones.
Key features included:
105mm rifled cannon capable of firing HE, HEAT, and kinetic energy rounds
Autoloader system, reducing crew requirements
Remote turret operation, keeping crew protected within the hull
Eight-wheel drive configuration for high road speed and operational range
The MGS saw operational service in Iraq and Afghanistan, where it was used primarily for infantry support, bunker reduction, and engaging fortified positions.
Its large gun provided a significant psychological and tactical advantage in urban environments, although the vehicle faced challenges related to weight distribution, maintenance complexity, and limited ammunition capacity.
Over time, the U.S. Army decided to retire the M1128 MGS from service as part of force restructuring, shifting toward alternative fire support platforms.
Despite its relatively short service life, the M1128 remains an important evolution in modern wheeled armoured vehicle design — bridging the gap between traditional tank firepower and rapid-response expeditionary forces.
