Eduard 1/48 Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero Type 52a ProfiPACK Edition # 82216
The Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero Type 52a, known to the Allies simply as the “Zero”, was Japan’s most famous and feared naval fighter of World War II.
Introduced in 1943 as an improved evolution of the earlier A6M3, the Type 52a combined the sleek agility of the original Zero with crucial upgrades for speed, durability, and firepower.
Powered by the Nakajima Sakae 21 radial engine, the A6M5 could reach speeds of up to 565 km/h (351 mph).
Its redesigned, shorter wings with rounded tips improved roll rate and allowed for higher diving speeds — addressing the weaknesses that had become evident in earlier models when facing modern Allied aircraft.
The Type 52a variant featured two 20mm Type 99 Model 2 cannon in the wings and two 7.7mm machine guns in the cowling, giving it a formidable punch in dogfights.
Reinforced wings and thicker skin panels made it more resilient to combat damage, while exhaust flame dampers and aerodynamic refinements provided improved night and carrier operation performance.
Despite being outmatched by newer Allied fighters like the F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair, the A6M5 Zero Type 52a remained a deadly opponent in the hands of skilled pilots.
Its legendary manoeuvrability, long range, and symbolic role in Japan’s aerial defence made it one of the most recognised aircraft in aviation history.
To this day, the Zero stands as a timeless symbol of engineering excellence, bravery, and the evolution of air combat in the Pacific theatre.
