Eduard kits 1/48 Messerschmitt Bf-109G-6 ProfiPACK Edition # 82167
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 was one of the most important and widely produced variants of Germany’s famous Bf 109 fighter family during the Second World War.
Introduced in 1943, the G-6 formed the backbone of the Luftwaffe’s single-seat fighter force during a period of intense aerial combat over Europe.
Powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 605A inverted V-12 engine, the Bf 109 G-6 offered strong climb performance and high top speed, making it well suited for interceptor duties against Allied bomber formations. Its most distinctive feature was the pair of prominent bulges on the engine cowling, added to accommodate the 13 mm MG 131 machine guns mounted above the engine.
These “Beule” fairings gave the aircraft its characteristic appearance.
Armament typically consisted of one engine-mounted 20 mm MG 151/20 cannon firing through the propeller hub, complemented by the two cowling-mounted machine guns.
The G-6 could also be fitted with a wide range of optional equipment and field modifications, including under-wing gun pods, different canopies, and tropical or high-altitude adaptations, resulting in significant variation between individual aircraft.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 served on all major fronts and was flown by many of Germany’s leading fighter aces.
Although increasingly challenged by newer Allied fighters, it remained a formidable opponent and stands today as one of the most recognisable and historically significant variants of the Bf 109 lineage.
