The Curtiss P-40N Warhawk, flown by the aces of the U.S. Army Air Forces' 49th Fighter Group, was a rugged and reliable fighter that played a vital role in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

The P-40N was the final and most produced variant of the Warhawk series, featuring a lighter airframe, more powerful Allison engine, and improved range and maneuverability.

Pilots of the 49th Fighter Group used the P-40N to great effect in air-to-air combat and ground attack missions across New Guinea, the Philippines, and other key battle zones.

Known for their aggressive tactics and skill, the group’s aces earned their reputations flying the Warhawk against formidable Japanese opponents.

The P-40N’s iconic shark-mouth nose art and its service with the 49th cement its place as a symbol of determined Allied resistance in the Pacific war.
