The Westland Lynx HAS.2 (French Aéronavale) is a navalised multi-role helicopter that combines agility, versatility, and proven maritime capability.

Originally developed in the United Kingdom by Westland Helicopters, the Lynx was widely exported and adopted by several navies, including France, where it served with distinction in the French Navy.

The HAS.2 variant was specifically configured for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and maritime operations. Equipped with advanced sensors such as dipping sonar and radar, it was capable of detecting and tracking underwater threats while operating from the decks of frigates and other naval vessels.

Its compact size and folding rotor system made it ideally suited for shipboard use, even in challenging sea conditions.

Powered by twin engines and featuring a highly responsive rotor system, the Lynx gained a reputation for exceptional speed and manoeuvrability.

It was, for a time, one of the fastest helicopters in the world, enabling rapid response to emerging threats and efficient coverage of patrol areas.

In French service, the Lynx HAS.2 was often armed with torpedoes or depth charges for anti-submarine missions, and it could also perform surface surveillance, search and rescue, and utility roles.

Its adaptability allowed it to support a wide range of naval operations, from routine patrols to active combat deployments.

The Westland Lynx remains an iconic naval helicopter, and its service with the French Aéronavale highlights its international success.
