The SIAI-Marchetti SF-260TP is a high-performance turboprop version of the well-known SF-260 family, combining the sleek appearance of a light aircraft with the capability of a military trainer and light attack platform.
Originally developed in Italy by SIAI-Marchetti, the SF-260 series became popular around the world thanks to its excellent handling, high speed, and versatility in both civil and military roles.
The SF-260TP variant is powered by a turboprop engine, giving the aircraft improved climb performance, greater reliability, and lower operating costs compared to earlier piston-engine versions.
Designed primarily as a military trainer, the aircraft also proved highly effective in the light attack and counter-insurgency role, where its agility, speed, and ability to operate from relatively short airstrips made it extremely useful.
Equipped with underwing hardpoints, the SF-260TP can carry a variety of light weapons such as machine gun pods, rockets, and small bombs.
This capability allows the aircraft to perform close air support, reconnaissance, and patrol missions while still retaining its excellent training characteristics for pilot instruction.
Used by several air forces around the world, the SF-260TP "Light Attacker" demonstrates how a compact and efficient aircraft can fulfil multiple operational roles.
