The StuH 42 Ausf. G (Sturmhaubitze 42) Late Production was a powerful German assault howitzer developed from the proven StuG III chassis, designed to provide direct fire support for infantry units.
Introduced in 1942 and refined through to the war’s end, the late-production variant represented the final evolution of this formidable support vehicle.
Armed with the 105mm leFH 18/40 howitzer, the StuH 42 was capable of delivering devastating high-explosive firepower against entrenched infantry, bunkers, and light fortifications.
The late production models featured standardized components with the StuG III Ausf. G, including a cast or welded mantlet, additional bolt-on armor plates, a remote-controlled MG 34, and often Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste.
Though not intended for tank-to-tank combat, its powerful gun could still pose a threat to enemy armor with HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank) rounds.
Used extensively on the Eastern and Western fronts, the StuH 42 served in Sturmgeschütz brigades and supported Panzergrenadier divisions, proving invaluable in urban and close-quarter fighting.
The StuH 42 Ausf. G Late Production embodies the German doctrine of concentrated fire support—sturdy, deadly, and engineered for the harsh demands of the battlefield.
