The Dassault Mirage IIIE/EZ Fighter-Bomber is a renowned supersonic combat aircraft developed by the French aerospace company Dassault Aviation.
Based on the successful Mirage III interceptor, the IIIE variant was specifically designed as a multi-role fighter-bomber capable of performing both air-to-air combat and ground-attack missions.
Its distinctive delta-wing design, powerful SNECMA Atar turbojet engine, and sleek aerodynamic profile allowed the aircraft to reach speeds exceeding Mach 2, making it one of the most advanced fighters of its era.
The Mirage IIIE featured improved avionics and extended operational range compared to earlier Mirage variants, enabling it to carry a wider variety of weapons for strike missions, including bombs, rockets, and air-to-air missiles.
This versatility made the aircraft highly attractive to numerous air forces around the world.
The Mirage IIIEZ designation refers to aircraft operated by the South African Air Force, which adapted the type for both interception and ground-attack duties during its service life.
Highly manoeuvrable and capable of high-speed interception, the Mirage IIIE proved to be a reliable and effective combat aircraft throughout the Cold War period.
