The LRDG CMP F30 Truck with 37mm Mk.I Bofors Gun was a formidable combination used by the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) during World War II for reconnaissance and raiding missions in the North African desert.
The LRDG, known for its expertise in desert warfare, employed a variety of vehicles and weapons to operate deep behind enemy lines.
The CMP F30 Truck served as the primary transport vehicle for LRDG patrols, providing the mobility and reliability needed to traverse the harsh desert terrain.
Based on the Chevrolet C15 Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) truck chassis, the F30 variant was equipped with a powerful engine and sturdy suspension, enabling it to carry heavy loads over long distances with relative ease.
Mounted on the rear bed of the CMP F30 Truck was the 37mm Mk.I Bofors Gun, a compact and versatile anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapon.
Manufactured by Bofors in Sweden, the Mk.I Bofors Gun was highly regarded for its firepower and accuracy. It could engage enemy vehicles and aircraft effectively at medium ranges, providing essential fire support for LRDG patrols during reconnaissance and raiding missions.
The combination of the CMP F30 Truck and the 37mm Mk.I Bofors Gun allowed LRDG patrols to operate independently and strike enemy targets with precision, contributing to the disruption of Axis supply lines and the gathering of vital intelligence in the North African theater.
The versatility and firepower of this combination made it a valuable asset for the LRDG and played a significant role in the Allied victory in North Africa.
