Details

The Bristol Buckmaster was a British twin-engine advanced trainer aircraft developed by Bristol Aeroplane Company in the late 1940s.

It was designed to meet a Royal Air Force (RAF) requirement for a trainer aircraft capable of preparing pilots for flying high-performance fighters.

The Buckmaster was a low-wing monoplane with a retractable undercarriage, and it was powered by two Bristol Centaurus radial engines.

It had a maximum speed of around 340 miles per hour and a range of approximately 1,200 miles.

The aircraft could carry up to four crew members, including a pilot, co-pilot, and two trainees.

During its service with the RAF, the Buckmaster was used primarily for training pilots to fly jet-powered fighters.

The aircraft's performance and handling characteristics were similar to those of the Gloster Meteor and other early British jet fighters.

In addition to its training role, the Buckmaster was also used for communications and liaison duties.

Despite its usefulness as a training aircraft, the Buckmaster was never produced in large numbers, with only 94 aircraft built.

It was gradually phased out of service in the early 1950s, as more advanced training aircraft such as the Hawker Hunter and English Electric Canberra entered service.
