The British Type 1942 5 Gallon (20L) Jerry Can represents a major improvement in wartime fuel storage and transport, reflecting lessons learned during the early years of the Second World War.
Inspired by the highly effective German jerrycan design, Britain adopted and produced its own version to overcome the shortcomings of earlier fuel containers.
Constructed from pressed steel, these cans were far more durable and reliable than the fragile “flimsies” used previously.
