The Lützow Freikorps and Nassau Grenadiers were notable German formations that fought against Napoleon during the later stages of the Napoleonic Wars, particularly during the Wars of Liberation from 1813 onwards.

The Lützow Freikorps was a volunteer corps raised in Prussia, composed largely of students, intellectuals, and patriotic volunteers.

Dressed in distinctive black uniforms with red and gold details, the Freikorps became a powerful symbol of German resistance.

Though often lightly equipped, they were used for skirmishing, raids, and harassment of French supply lines, gaining a reputation for determination and irregular warfare.

The Nassau Grenadiers, serving the Duchy of Nassau, were trained as disciplined line infantry with a strong reputation for steadiness under fire.

Equipped with muskets and bayonets and wearing traditional European uniforms with grenadier distinctions, they fought in formed ranks and were relied upon to hold key positions on the battlefield.

Together, these units reflect the diverse forces that contributed to the defeat of Napoleon, combining patriotic volunteer enthusiasm with professional infantry discipline during the final campaigns in Germany and beyond.
