Kovozavody Prostejov 1/72 Messerschmitt Bf-109E-4/7 (Plastic Parts Only) # 7203
The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4/7 was a key early-war variant of Germany’s primary fighter aircraft, developed by Messerschmitt and extensively used by the Luftwaffe during the opening years of the Second World War.
Part of the “Emil” series, the E-4 variant introduced improved armament and protection, including wing-mounted 20 mm MG FF cannons and enhanced cockpit armour.
Powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine, the aircraft offered excellent speed, climb rate, and acceleration for its time, making it a formidable opponent in air combat.
The E-7 sub-variant further expanded the aircraft’s operational capability by incorporating provisions for a drop tank, significantly increasing its range.
This made it particularly valuable for long-range escort missions and operations over areas such as the Mediterranean and North Africa. Many E-7 aircraft were also fitted with tropical filters for use in desert environments.
The Bf 109E-4/7 retained the lightweight and streamlined design that characterised the Bf 109 family, delivering agile handling and strong overall performance.
However, its relatively short range—partially addressed in the E-7—remained a limiting factor during operations such as the Battle of Britain.
Serving in roles including air superiority, interception, and ground attack, the Bf 109E-4/7 played a crucial part in early Luftwaffe operations.
Its combination of firepower, speed, and adaptability ensured its place as one of the most significant fighter aircraft of the early Second World War.
