The Mikoyan MiG-21UM is a two-seat trainer version of the legendary Soviet MiG-21 fighter, developed to prepare pilots for one of the most widely produced supersonic aircraft in history.

Introduced in the early 1970s, the MiG-21UM was based on the MiG-21US but incorporated improvements in avionics, flight controls, and engine performance.

Retaining the sleek delta-wing design and powerful Tumansky R-11F-300 turbojet engine, the UM could reach speeds of up to Mach 2 while offering duplicated controls and instrumentation in its elongated cockpit for instructor and student.

While primarily intended for advanced flight and combat training, the MiG-21UM retained the capability to carry external fuel tanks, unguided rockets, and bombs, allowing it to perform secondary light attack roles if required.

Its combination of high performance, agility, and durability ensured it remained in service with numerous air forces well into the 21st century.

Serving across the Warsaw Pact, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, the MiG-21UM helped train generations of fighter pilots during the Cold War and beyond, cementing its place as an essential companion to one of the most iconic jet fighters ever built.
