The “Auf RSO/01 Werkstattkraftwagen” was a field workshop vehicle based on the rugged Raupenschlepper Ost (RSO/01), designed to provide mobile maintenance and repair support for German forces during World War II.
Built to operate in the harsh conditions of the Eastern Front, the RSO’s fully tracked chassis offered excellent traction in mud, snow, and difficult terrain where wheeled vehicles often struggled.
Adapted into a workshop configuration, the vehicle was equipped to carry tools, spare parts, and essential equipment required for field repairs.
This allowed maintenance crews to service and repair vehicles and machinery close to the front lines, reducing downtime and improving operational efficiency.
Powered by a simple and reliable engine, the RSO/01 prioritised durability and ease of maintenance over speed, making it ideal for logistical and support roles in challenging environments.
Its utilitarian design and adaptability led to a wide range of specialised variants, including cargo carriers, artillery tractors, and support vehicles such as this workshop version.
