The C-26A “Metroliner” is a military transport and utility aircraft based on the successful Fairchild Swearingen SA-227 Metroliner regional turboprop airliner.
Adapted for military service, the C-26A was used primarily by the United States Air Force and United States Army for light transport, cargo delivery, and personnel movement duties.
Powered by two reliable Garrett TPE331 turboprop engines, the aircraft offers strong performance, good fuel efficiency, and the ability to operate from shorter regional airfields.
Its compact yet capable design allows it to carry passengers, light cargo, or specialized mission equipment, making it a versatile platform for a variety of operational roles.
In addition to transport duties, some C-26A aircraft were configured for surveillance, reconnaissance, and training missions.
The Metroliner’s proven airframe, dependable engines, and economical operating costs made it an effective and practical aircraft for military support operations.
Its service highlights the adaptability of the Metroliner design, which successfully transitioned from civilian commuter airliner to a capable military utility aircraft.
