The Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. E was a key evolution in Germany’s early-war tank development, introduced in 1940.
This variant featured improved armor protection, with frontal armor increased to 50mm, offering greater resilience against anti-tank weapons.
It retained the short-barreled 75mm KwK 37 L/24 gun, effective for infantry support and engaging soft targets.
The Ausf. E was powered by a Maybach HL120 engine, providing reliable mobility across varied terrain.
Used during the invasions of France, the Balkans, and in the early stages of Operation Barbarossa, the Ausf. E marked a transition point between the early-war support role of the Panzer IV and its eventual evolution into a frontline combat tank.
